Old Photos

I finally dug up every picture I could find that I have ever taken on digital camera and uploaded them all onto picasa, thus solidifying my relationship with Google.

If I’ve ever taken a picture of you (Lee Katz, Search and Destroy, anyone?), then now’s a good time to find it.

Ouch

I just got my ass handed to me in racquetball by one of the best virologists/microbiologists that I know.  I had a million excuses why I lost but really I’m out of shape.  I’m going to keep playing until I’m back in shape.  Who wants to play me?

Rush Limbaugh is Computer-Stupid

I’d love to see Adobe sue Rush Limbaugh over misrepresenting their product, essentially slander.  Oh, and the same goes for Neal Boortz.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200902130016

Rush Limbaugh falsely claimed that Democrats “have reformatted the [economic recovery] bill — they’ve made it a PDF file when they posted it. … And, so, you can read every page, but you cannot keyword search it. It’s not a text file as legislation normally is as posted on these public websites. They don’t want anybody knowing what’s in this.” In fact, as Adobe Systems notes of PDFs: “You can run a search using either the Search window or the Find toolbar. In either case, Reader searches the PDF body text, layers, form fields, and digital signatures.”

Gmail contacts: FINALLY

Gmail finally put in the ability to merge two contacts.  It’s been annoying me because Gmail just creates a new contact willy-nilly and never lets you merge them…. until now.  I bet it took them like one day to do, too.

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/02/merge-gmail-contacts.html

The feature is not yet automatic, so you need to find the contacts you want to merge, but it’s useful if you don’t have too many duplicates. Just select two or more entries for the same person, click on “Merge these contacts” and Google will combine the information from the selected contacts.

All the email addresses from the merged contacts will continue to be available in the auto-complete feature, so you’ll still be able to choose one of the addresses.

Complications

I spent a long time making and submitting a paper for Nucleic Acids Research over the last few weeks, and I hope it pays off.  This semester’s been kind of tough with quite a few responsibilities: medical microbiology class, microbiology journal club, Neisseria journal club, Neisseria lab group meetings, CDC lab groups meetings, and of course research.  Now it seems like I might have a grant due soon–I just found out that my grant renewal was pushed up to early February without notifying me.  And there’s a test in one of my classes on Tuesday.

I’d just like to thank everyone who’s cooked me a meal or kept me company while I’ve been so busy.  Thanks.
