People Like Me

People like me and I don’t know why.  Honestly, if I’ve ever asked you why you like me, it’s only out of sheer curiosity.

Last weekend, Ateaya gave me a random quiz over the phone that sounded like it came from a chain letter, but I answered the questions anyway.  Not all of its conclusions were completely true but one part had a lot of truth in it, which is that I really don’t know why people like me.

Then today, someone who I haven’t talked to for two days texted me and told me that I was a good friend.  I still have no idea why.  Maybe it was sarcasm for not talking to her for two days?

Despair Poster

I finally got a Despair poster. It’s framed and hanging on my wall now.

Madness Poster

Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “Hey, is there room in your head for one more?”

Passover with Poppy

I went down with my family to have a sedar with my grandfather who we all call Poppy.

On the way down into the airport, my dad and I had this notable conversation

Dad: ok everyone, which side should we go to on the airport, North or South?

me: I don’t know, South?

Dad: No, North.  Do you know that sometimes if the North side is too crowded, you can park in the South because it is usually less crowded?

me: ok, let’s park South.

Dad: No, we will park North.

This is just so funny to me because it happened so quickly, and I have no idea why my dad was asking questions he already knew the answers to.  He gave all these reasons to park South but we went North.  Ok maybe it doesn’t sound so funny on (virutal) paper but it was if you were there.

Hacking Garage Doors

The Pirate Bay started a blogging service with the idea of everyone being able to say whatever they want and not being shut down. Naturally, I searched google for such a blog using my awesome searching powers and came across a blog with one post: how to hack a garage door. I won’t spoil it for you, but if you want to fast forward to about 3:45 on the video, you see the guy driving around with his laptop and a garage remote, opening all his neighbors’ garage doors.

Knife

About ten years ago when my family visited Seattle, we found a great knife that acts like a saw.  We bought it at Pike Market and it’s the best knife I’ve ever seen, but the problem is that we got the left handed one.  For ten years we have all had the same complaint.  It is a great knife but it is difficult to cut with.

Until now.

I found the exact same guy and bought two right handed knives from him at the Dogwood Festival two weekends ago.  I know it was the same guy because I asked him.  I have made a challah in celebration and have one more piece of dough ready to go for another one.  That knife cuts so awesomely, and I don’t mind advertising for the guy.  His name is Robert Linn and his number is 800-800-8520.  Too bad there is no website.

Googleganger

A googleganger is someone who shares your name who you can find by searching on the Internet.  Mine, of course, is Radiologist at Yale, Lee Katz (a.k.a. RaY Lee Katz).  King has just called my attention to an article from the New York Times that talks about this very thing.

Now that the telephone book has been all but replaced by the minutiae-rich Web, searching out, even stalking, the people who share one’s name has become a common pastime. Bloggers muse about their multiple digital selves, known as Google twins or Googlegängers (a term that was the American Dialect Society’s “most creative” word last year).

RaY Lee Katz, I would like to take this opportunity to again brag that I am number one for Lee Katz searches.  But I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you publically to write on my blog.  You would be more than welcome to be an author on here as my googleganger, and I am interested to hear what you have to write.  Please email me so that I can make you an account.  Lord knows you already know my email address, so go ahead and contact me about it.

Laura Beasley

It is so difficult to search for your name online.  Maybe this can be your top hit if you search for your name.

This is for the Laura Beasley in Atlanta, GA.

Pet Peeve

As many of you know, one of my pet peeves is the expression “Could care less,” even though the real expression is “Could not care less.”  This is because you are at the lowest point of caring.  Why would you announce that you could care less at all?  Do you want to care less?  Ahsan has told me an anecdote to a linguistics conference in 1974.

A linguistics professor was lecturing to his class one day. “In
English,” he said, “A double negative forms a positive. In some
languages, though, such as Russian, a double negative is still a
negative. However, there is no language wherein a double
positive can form a negative.”

A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”

My Days

My days recently are either

  • workworkworkworkwork, get home around 7 or 8, relax in front of the tv, sleep.
  • workworkworkwork, go through traffic, get home around 6 or 7, cook, relaaaax
  • workwork, long lunch, workwork, go out for a while, get home around 5, relax, work
  • workworkwork, get home around 7, go out with everyone, get home by 10 or so.  Sleep late.

Today I’d say today was similar to option 4 because I finished work around 7:30, went out for food, then played frisbee until now.  Really good times, and I’m glad I got to go out.  I’m going to have some ice cream now and relax.  Maybe sleep late.

A Doubled Wardrobe

They say that gay couples instantly double their wardrobes when they start dating.  I finally met a real life example of someone who doubled his wardrobe merely by dating his boyfriend for a few years.

Sirius Radio

I bought Moishe last September and got six months of Sirius radio with him.  How is it that I still have it?  I haven’t renewed anything.

My favorite station so far is Energie 2 (pronounced “dew”).  It has all these eclectic songs from all over the world.  The weird thing is, I can’t find Energie 1.
