New Game Idea

After receiving a few succinct text messages, my friends and I came up with what might be a fun game.  The text messages were like “Stuck in traffic,” “Mom says to use the valet service,” and “Took a wrong turn.”  These all sound like board game events, and so I will try to program a game centering around it.  Maybe I’ll call it Text Message Potpourri or something equally bizarre.  Anyone have any good ideas on the name?  I’ll start by letting everyone post random text messages they find in their phones, and I’ll get onto the game later.  What should the actual game look like?  Maybe I need to see what zany text messages you guys upload and then decide exactly what the game should be.

Ideas, people, ideas!  I need a name for the game first!

New Albums

I put up some pictures of my trips to FL the last few weeks: of Seacrest Beach and of Deborah’s wedding.

I Might Not Become the Only Master-Doctor in the Family

I went down to Fort Lauderdale to see my second-cousin-once-removed’s, Deborah’s, wedding.  The wedding was fabulous, and it was great to see family again.  I don’t normally have a lot of chances to see my dad’s side of the family.

Well, aside from my dad’s side of the family, I went to see my mom’s father.  It turns out that when my grandfather was little, maybe younger than about 15 years old, he was addressed as “Master Bob.”  Master, as it turns out, is a title for a young person.  Also, he worked at a pharmacy.  In those days, they called anyone who worked there “doc.”  Thus, when he was about 13 or 14 years old, he was a master-doctor!  Not unlike me after I get my PhD because I already have a masters.

MSN Maps Street View

I saw the Microsoft street-view truck driving next to me on the way home from school today.  Moesha might be famous soon!  Check her out between State Street and Market Street on 16th (whenever they roll out street view for Atlanta)

Dream

I was on my friend’s driveway, waiting for my dad to pick me up.  My friend started walking by.

“Heyyyy,” I said, “you are supposed to be out of town.”
“I’m really leaving tomorrow, but we already said goodbye.”

A bunch of tourists came by and were coincidentally composed of all my Intro to Biology students.  I left my friend and followed them to some kind of game (football?) in a stadium.  During the game I put my head on one of their shoulders and closed my eyes.

Good Times with Cabbage Rolls

I went to a friend’s last night and had some of the most delicious cabbage rolls. She put some delicious meat stuffing in there mmm mmm. I think I’m craving them right now.

Afterwards, we watched Ernest Goes to School.  I had no idea that Sarah Chalke was in it!  hahaha
Somehow, it brought on the conversation of her being the “second Becky” on Roseanne and how Roseanne was really crappy towards the end of the show.  Now I’m left with rumors:  did Dan die?  Did Roseanne win the lottery?  These questions can never really been answered unless I watch the show again.

Did like 5 of my friends all get together and decide to leave Atlanta to go to different destinations for a while?  Sad.

My Family Vacation: 1 Shade Darker

The vacation went well.

In summary, we were right next to Seagrove Beach, FL, which is right next to the beach where they shot the Truman Show.

There was a lot of beach and pool chilling, with one afternoon hanging out with Lizzie and Eric and Eric’s sister and mother (who also happened to coincidentally be visiting). I don’t think I did it really, but I might have gotten 1 shade darker. Originally, I thought I could only be white or red–I’m feelin’ good.

My family met us at a really awesome looking house: 3 stories tall, 6 patios/porches. It was totally luxurious. Because I am not great at explaining what happened, I’m urging Jeff and Rebecca to write on their thoughts.

My favorite moments:

Lying on the beach and at the pool.

Hanging with Lizzie and Eric, and his mom and sister.

Hearing stories about the meat sales industry from Michael.

Hearing stories about construction from Randy.

Jeff:  I had this great dream and I hope it continues tonight.  In the dream, I am furious and am training to “Eye of the Tiger.”
Lee: After the lights were out and right before we all went to sleep in the same room, starts humming Eye of the Tiger.  Just trying to get you in the mood, Jeff.

Am I Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

Answer: yes.

However, I am not smarter than an Intro to Biology student.  While proctoring the final exam the other day, I was caught bragging that I could make an 80% or better without studying if I took it then and there.  Da boss in turn made a deal with me saying that she would cover me for proctoring if I took it. It was on.

I sat down next to the professor (not Da Boss, the other one) with a number 2, the scantron, and the test.  I found a few questions that I had no idea about, such as what a particular algae was or the statistics of getting a genetic disease.  On other questions, I found multiple correct answers, but because of the “choose the best answer” clause, the professor was able to accept one answer only, with the less correct one being wrong.  Because I was not exhuming confidence, the professor started chiding me.

Around question 70, he picked up my scantron and impatiently graded it.  I had 20 wrong and so was at around a 70%.  Oy.  This brought on the real pain.  Because it was now painful, the prof brought on the bigger insults.  For example, “I feel for the future of biology if you don’t know that answer.”  No wonder the students don’t seem to have a lot of confidence in lab.

Ok Intro to Biology, I give you one more semester, and hopefully by then, I’m outta there.
